A Prayer for Shalom
Words to pray when you are overwhelmed, broken, and need peace
God of peace,
May the peace that the Lord Jesus promised to give to us, the peace that is unfathomable, unquantifiable, and unsurpassable guard our hearts —
When we are on the tip of breaking, keep us whole.
When we are without, keep us together within.
When midnight terrors arise, send your angels to take charge over us.
When we are abandoned, carry us in your everlasting arms.
When those who govern continue to fail us, lift our eyes to your Kingship.
When Fear colors our night skies, direct us to your perfect love.
When Shame roars from the den of past transgressions, silence them with the blood of the Cross.
When the Claws of dehumanization seek to rip out our hope, render their attempts null and void.
When reports of murder against the marginalized ring out, may you be an avenger so that we don’t have to.
and guard our minds-
When we think that there is no way out, make a way of escape.
When lies and slander threaten to demolish all that we have built, remind us that you are our everlasting foundation.
When thoughts of hopelessness continue to pour in, teach us the art of hope.
When we are burdened by unabating anxieties that seek to rob us of the air we breathe, care for us and bring us to a place of abundance.
When we are overwhelmed by our failures, remind us of your Victory.
When we pass through dark nights of the soul, be the light that will break through clouds of despair.
